Chevrolet Corvette C5 Wheel Performance

C5 Corvettes are a common sight at track days, but most available wheel options are either too narrow or not up to the task of prolonged track use. If you want to extract even more performance from your car, a lightweight chassis specific set of wider wheels and tires will make a world of difference. We created forged wheels such as the Apex VS-5RS and SM-10RS along with flow formed wheels such as the EC-7 and SM-10 to increase performance.

A Brief History of the 1997-2004 Corvette

Our selection of C5 Corvette wheels are ready to bolt on to your base, FRC, Z51, or Z06 to improve performance and give it a custom appearance. America’s longest running sportscar, the C5 Corvette was all new in 1997. It featured front and rear double wishbone suspension for the first time, along with mounting the transmission in a rear transaxle configuration for better weight distribution. Additionally, the old LT1 was replaced with a new, all aluminum 5.7L LS1. This was the beginning of the legendary LS series motors, shoved into the car that put the Corvette into true supercar territory.

GM took the C5 racing in multiple series throughout its lifespan. Most notably, the C5.R was a full race car that still had production car underpinnings to really showcase what they were capable of. Featuring a Katech assembled motor, this 600+ horsepower monster racked up 31 wins in just 55 appearances in the American Le Mans Series, capped off by four straight constructors championships from 2001-2004.

What Makes it a Good Track Car

The C5 Z06 is one of the best bang for your buck track cars in existence, and has been for the past decade. It combines everything you could want from a track car for all skill levels. Reliable drivetrains, easy to source parts with infinite aftermarket support, V8 power, rear wheel drive, and a chassis that just loves to be tossed through corners with 50/50 weight distribution. While not completely without their flaws, it’s a hard bargain to pass up. Just ask Road & Track: The Cheapest Trackday Hero You Can Get Is a C5 Corvette Z06.
